Requirements:
Heart
rate monitor
Use
of a heart rate monitor is preferred. While training
based on perceived exertion can be done if you have
no way of accessing a heart rate monitor, use of a heart
rate monitor is far superior.
Measuring
power (watts) and speed
For
cycling, measuring power is the gold standard for analyzing
your true output and progress. But moderately priced
reliable power meters are relatively new, so not everyone
has a power meter yet. Training by heart rate and speed
still provide excellent data.
Your
speed while running, swimming, skating, skiing, etc.
needs to be measured to accurately compare one workout
to the next.
Workouts
are prescribed by one or a combination of the following;
watts, heart rate, speed, and lactate levels, and also
by perceived exertion if you have non the measuring
devices available.
I
strongly encourage the use of heart rate monitors, power
meters, and lactate kits, however not everyone has each
of these units. I wouldn't want someone to feel they
can't get anywhere without these measuring tools, and
I will advise based on perceived exertion alone if needed,
although such circumstances are very rare. Training
will still be far more effective than "winging
it", but not nearly as productive compared to using
technology.
How
it works:
- After
your current fitness and goals are assessed;
- You
send daily/ weekly training records by email
- Records
are analyzed and the next days/ weeks of training
is sent back to you by email
- Other
details and questions are addressed through phone
calls.
